WOMEN AT WORKPLACE

“We are becoming the men we wanted to marry” - Gloria Steinem

Women constitute nearly half of the population of the world. They, standing shoulder to shoulder with men, have to play a significant role in the socio-economic & cultural growth of the world by contributing their might.

The history, in a way, had been resistant to accept women as equal to men, though some countries like India even during the ancient period had recognized the important place of women in the society. However, in the advent of civilization women where impact relegated to a place of less importance & subordinate to men. Things have gradually parted changing & after centuries have come to understand that women have to be lifted & put on par with men for this women empowerment, making them more & more equipped with powers, possibilities & opportunities.
There are many examples of successful women leaders leading the economic & democratic societies. Women can also be defined as follows:

W-Work
O-Organization
M-Modern
E- Equality
N- Nation

The reality today is that over half the world’s population of women is in a position with the least rights and no power. More women are subjugated by men. We live in a world that is dominated by the patriarchal values and where men are in power. We’d be ignorant if we were to say that there is sexual equality in the world. There just isn’t but this doesn’t make men wrong. This makes the system wrong and it’s time for a change. Women will thrive when there is fairness and greater balance across the board.

Feminism has been vastly misconstrued, but ultimately it is about equality for all. Feminism is the belief in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes. Women are waking up and realizing that they can change the world. We need to look at the amazing feminist role models in the world today, like, Irom Chanu Sharmila, Abanti Sankaranarayanan, Kiran Bedi, Shivani Verma, Indu Jain, Richa Kar, Kirron Kher and many others. The world needs feminine power, not masculine women trying to fit into a patriarchal world. We need to bring feminine qualities to the corporate world, the educational system, health and communities worldwide. In today’s world, a significant change is witnessed and the attitudinal shift is observed in women's and society's thoughts about women's equality and emancipation. Some of the most persistent forces working against women’s rise to the top, whether it’s the household chores that drag them out of the race for top jobs, the employer who sidelines them for taking time off, or the spiralling pensions deficit that leaves many near penniless in old age.

Women are still paid less, female bosses are still in the minority and motherhood still carries the risk of total career derailment and all this despite record numbers of women joining the workforce over the past decade. Women in the workplace might do even more than boosting the bottom line. Having more women in the workplace actually makes an organization a better place to work. It’s a disturbing prospect for many women, who require more money for healthcare and can reasonably expect to outlive men by a number of years.

The burden of housework and family care even if they work as many hours as their partner. The constant round of wiping and worrying can have a corrosive effect, leaving them too weary to take on high-profile projects or compete for the top jobs. Employers really do discriminate against women who take time out of work to look after children. Recent research has found that stay-at-home mothers are half as likely to be asked in for an interview as a woman who was employed but made redundant.

Women have become more ambitious than ever: 82% are confident they'll reach their career goals and 77% think they make a good leader. There's more it turns out that when women negotiate for pay raises and promotions, they often succeed. It is also observed that women are not leaving their companies at higher rates than men and a very few plan to leave the workforce to focus on family.

Having a higher percentage of female talent in an organization predicted:

  • More job satisfaction
  • More organizational dedication
  • More meaningful work
  • Less burnout
  • Opportunities to make a difference
  • Enjoyable work culture

Gender Differences Between Men & Women in the Workplace:

Men’s brains gravitate toward facts and logic.
(Share ideas)
Women’s brains are geared toward intuition and emotion.
(Share emotions)
Men are more direct. More aggressive, more prone to interrupt.
Women are more soften. Allow them to be interrupted more.
Men are quiet & focus. Attempt to dominate the conversation.
Women are more affirmative. Concerned with equalized input.
Men gather information.
Women maintain harmony.
Tend to relate to other men on a one-up,
one-down basis. Status and dominance are important to men.
More relationship oriented & look for commonalities & ways to connect with others.
Men think the woman is agreeing with them. He is surprised when she later disagrees since she nodded her head.
At meetings, women nod their head to show they are listening.
Men can have a disagreement, move on to another subject and go get a drink together.
If women have a disagreement with each other it affects all aspects of their relationship.
Don’t see the point in sharing personal issues.
Talk to other women when they have a problem or need to make a decision.
Tell & give information rather than ask questions. Share experiences if needed.
Focus on building rapport. Sharing experiences & asking questions.
Less likely to listen.
Listen carefully /attentively.

So to make a difference, think globally and act locally! We need to do our bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.

DIWALI

Diwali Puja is knocking at your doorstep!

The festival usually falls between the middle of October and the middle of November, although this is decided upon by the Hindu lunar calendar. It symbolises the replacement of darkness (ignorance) with ‘inner’ light – garnered via the pursuit of knowledge and spiritual practices. Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of good fortune and auspicious beginnings.

While each faith has its own reason to celebrate the festival, one of the most popular stories told is the legend of Lord Ram and his wife Sita returning to their kingdom in Northern India from exile after defeating the demon king Ravan in the 15th century BC.

Worshipers pray for prosperity and well-being for the year that lies ahead, with fireworks and crackers proffering plenty of raucous razzle-dazzle when devotional formalities come to a close. The noise is believed to herald the defeat of evil and catch the attention of the gods.

Houses and shops are given a rigorous spring clean before being lovingly decorated with fairy lights, patterned lanterns and colourful rangolis. The streets teem with shoppers keenly stocking up on everything from fancy new clothes and festive household decorations, to gifts for family, friends and business acquaintances.
The modern world is changing and the festivals are the only way to keep our culture and traditions alive. For us, Diwali is the victory of good over evil, the returning of good back into our lives and starting a new year with a positive approach.

CITY OF LIGHTS

Mumbai City – the heart of India,
Life starts early in the morning, running and scrambling with daily routine,
People here are fully enthusiastic, be it a businessman or a simple housewife.

There’s not a minute to spare, everyone is busy to go here and there,
The city never sleeps - 24 X 7, people flock here and there from every platform to every station, what it lacks in space, it makes up in spirit.

Rains may flood and block all the ways of commuting, but the city rocks.
The trains are always packed, the roads are forever jammed.

The lifeline is a rake on track, so many people with different cultures and traditions. Be it any caste or any festival, everyone together unites and celebrates, whatever be their lingual affiliation.

The city is filled with good and bad people, some places maybe dirty and stinky, some places maybe clean, but still people love and admire their city Mumbai … Amchi Mumbai …

The spirit of Mumbai is wonderful, where people unite together and support each other when terror strikes.

Freedom - Is Wings .......

Freedom

Freedom rules,Freedom is like a pair wings,
Freedom rocks, freedom rules, but it's no thing for a pair of fools,
Freedom rules,Freedom gives the chance to sing,

Freedom rocks, freedom rules,
It should be a thing available in schools
Freedom rules,Freedom is just one of things,

Freedom rocks, freedom rules,
Freedom isn't just for the cool
Freedom rules,Freedom is like the water flowing from springs,

Freedom rocks, freedom rules.

There are some who love freedom like a jewel,
Freedom of choice,Freedom for love,

Freedom of time and space...
Freedom, freedom, Oh so great Freedom,

Freedom ................
Take me away...............................................................................................

Love is the beauty of the Soul

I was never insane except upon occasion when my heart was touched by your love! Since, love grows within you, so beauty grows. For love is the beauty of the soul. There is no heart for me like yours in this Universe, and there is no love for you like mine.

I want to read not write, read your words, not mine.
The words that broke the ice, the words of many question-less replies.
I want to take a pause from the silence, the silence after ending a poem.
The silence of unexplained unsaid 'love' that you unearthed, with your words, not mine.
Let your words remain like stillness on my face forever.

The stillness put upon by your words, not mine!!!

What is Music PR ?

Music PR :

Most music PR companies have a dedicated focus - for instance, they only do print media or they only do radio. Some are divided even further, in that they only do college and club radio promotion or they only promote to websites.
http://musicians.about.com/od/ip/g/musicpr.htm

Most music PR is done on a campaign basis. If a label wants to promote a new release, they may hire a PR company for a set window of time, during which the PR company will try to generate press releases and promotional activities. At the end of the campaign, the PR company will issue a report with press clippings of all of the coverage, that the album has received. They may report at intervals during the campaign as well.

Hiring a PR company can be a great thing. When you're working with an established PR company, then you know that first hurdle - the building of press contacts - has already been tackled. An envelope bearing the logo of a well known PR company can carry a lot of weight at a magazine that received hundreds of promos a day. Working with these companies can be extraordinarily expensive, however, and there is no guarantee of any pay off. Some PR campaigns end with exactly zilch in the way of press, but you still have to pay the bill.
For this reason, small labels should think carefully about PR - much of it can be done in-house, so only hiring a PR company when you think you have something that could really get a lot of press is a good plan.

Also Known As: Press Relations, Publicity, Promotion, Plugging (especially in the case of radio)

Difference between Advertising & Public Relations

Advertising:

  1. The company pays for ad space.
  2. You know exactly when that ad will air or be published.
  3. Since you're paying for the space, you have creative control on what goes into that ad.
  4. Since you pay for the space, you can run your ads over and over for as long as your budget allows. An ad generally has a longer shelf life than one press release.
  5. Consumers know when they're reading an advertisement they're trying to be sold a product or service.
  6. In advertising, you get to exercise your creativity in creating new ad campaigns and materials.

Public Relations:

  1. Your job is to get free publicity for the company.
  2. From news conferences to press releases, you're focused on getting free media exposure for the company and its products/services.
  3. You have no control over how the media presents your information, if they decide to use your info at all. They're not obligated to cover your event or publish your press release just because you sent something to them.
  4. You only submit a press release about a new product once. You only submit a press release about a news conference once. The PR exposure you receive is only circulated once. An editor won't publish your same press release three or four times in their magazine.
  5. When someone reads a third-party article written about your product or views coverage of your event on TV, they're seeing something you didn't pay for with ad dollars and view it differently than they do paid advertising.
  6. In public relations, you have to have a nose for news and be able to generate buzz through that news. You exercise your creativity, to an extent, in the way you search for new news to release to the media.
These two industries that are very different even though they're commonly confused as being one and the same.

DADDY I miss you a lot ...........

Daddy I miss you  infinitely & love you immensely

Dear Dad,

Your not just my father (Daddy) but a lovely friend who loved me and cared for me the most, shared everything with me and mom. You knew things that were unsaid by me, to you and you knew exactly what was it, which was understood by you and get it right away for me.

When you scolded me or punished me for my mistakes the purpose had an end. You traded away your youth, worked harder and harder day and night with dedication left for work, travelled far places, revealing the truth to raise your children right.
You gave us wealth, happiness and educate us at your best,
One of the last generation of fathers.
Who earned our respect and administration like good role models do.

Your time on earth ended soon, which left an empty space and sadness of losing such a precious gem out of my life, wounds are somehow mended with loving memories of you.

Dearest 'DADDY',

I miss you terribly, every single day that passes on remembering you every now and then.

Daddy, I miss you a lot

You have spread lovely colours in my life, taught me good teachings & lessons of life, I am blessed to be your daughter. The love, care and affection that you gave me is missed a lot.

Every single day, DADDY
I look at your photographs - miss your smile, remembering your belongings and cry alone at times.

Your everywhere around me, I miss fighting and arguing with you, I miss all those happy moments that we all spend together as a family. Remembering you brings a smile, but realizing that your no more depresses me.

It becomes hard to control my tears and get along with life and I have to live the way it is.

Life cannot be stilled nor the time would stop, wait or hold. The pain of losing you is unbearable, but every living thing has to die.

Life is tragic and goes on......

Hence, one has to lead whether wishes or not. I hope one day, I will be along with you laughing and watching the Sky - Clouds -Rainbow -Sun -Moon & Stars.
Where there are, no worries that would bother us.
I pray for peace, your soul rests in peace and gets Moksha.

OM NAMAH SHIVAYA!!!
